Gabriel Archer Tavern at the Williamsburg Winery

Yummy platters

Unfortunately, I arrived at the tavern too late for lunch and too early for dinner, but fortunately, I arrived when the platters were available. The platters - cheese and French - were available in half portions, so I had one of each. This meant that my eyes were way bigger than my stomach, but I enjoyed it.

The cheese platter had slices of Havarti and smoked Gouda, a wedge of Brie, a handful of bleu cheese, and generous tablespoons of lingonberry jam and stone-ground mustard, with half of a baguette. For around $8/half-platter, this was a good snack.

The French platter had slices of salami, duck & truffle pate, and pork & liver pate, some gerkin pickles, and generous tablespoons of lingonberry jam and stone-ground mustard, with half of a baguette. (Apologies for the lack of accents on pate.) Also around $8/half-platter, another good snack.

It's a bit lonesome eating cheese and pate by oneself, but the staff was really friendly and chatty. I didn't eat outside since it was so warm, but the patio looked very inviting. Wooden furniture, slightly not level, but very tavern-like. Also very tavern-like was an abundance of flies trying to enviously land on my platters, but placing a napkin over the food kept them unfulfilled and me happy.

Since my only other experience with lingonberries is through Ikea, I was surprised to find lingonberry jam on a baguette slice, but it was refreshing.

If you are going to the Williamsburg Winery, the Tavern is a good stop. I ate after my wine tasting, so it was a great way to wind down.
