Moody Gardens

Moody Gardens

First of all, Moody Gardens in NOT a botanical garden, like I've been under the impression for years and years. However, it was a day well spent. My husband and I (50 somethings) went for the day, and were POOPED at the end. There are three glass pyramids. One has a tropical forest, complete with running creeks and ponds, macaws and other birds. The other has a nice aquarium. The last houses exhibits and a "movie ride". The current exhibit has artifacts from the Titanic; very, very interesting. The "movie ride" is a little theater where the movie takes you under water, and the seats jostle you around as a squid attacks you. I believe that the movie changes from time to time. You also have a choice of IMAX movies; we saw a 3D movie about prehistoric fish. It was interesting. Oh, and since the gardens are on, I guess a lagoon, your ticket allows you to go on the ship ("paddle boat"?), which was nice. The food and drinks on the boat are WAY over priced... $12 for a marguarita that, I'm sure, didn't have any booze in it. We paid $45 each for the day. It allows you to see everything once (you have to choose between the movies). If you can buy your tickets ahead of time, DO SO. The line was TERRIBLY slow, and if it had been tourist season (we went the week after spring break), and the line had been longer, I would have walked out from frustration at how slow the line was moving, and the two ticket takers didn't seem to care. For only $5 more, you can get a two day ticket. If you have kids, that would be a good idea.
