"We had a group of 8 for a Friday evening. They don't take reservations, but when I called and asked what would be the best time to come, we were told before 6:30 or after 8:00. We arrived just after 6:00 and was told the wait was about 35 minutes. It was closer to 45 minutes. We were seated upstairs-cooler, less humid than downstairs. It is very loud and difficult to hear the waitress and other members at our table. Food was good(I'm not into those boiled peanuts that you find all over the area). I had the shrimp scampi. Waitress said it would have A LOT of garlic and it did! There are specials where you choose from a blackboard list of fish to combine to make your own special combination. If it was just a bit quieter! They give small children a Hymans dollar upon arrival to be used in the general store downstairs for a cup of ice cream after dinner. We were also able to purchase for $4.00 a Hyman's t-shirt."

"Hymans is one of those places that you just have to visit for the experience when in Charleston. From the complimentary boiled peanuts to the enjoyable business cards on the table that provide an entertaining experience while you wait for your food, this restaurant aims to please. My husband could not get enough of the she-crab soup and the combo family platter that was shared by all was heaping with shrimp, scallops, catfish, calamari and hush puppies. The portions were great and the prices reasonable. They had some of the best hush puppies that I have ever had as well. They had a sweetness to them that I had never tasted any where before and they were delicious.If you are not a seafood lover, beware, for there is little for those who prefer land meats, but if you do love seafood, there is a huge variety of your favorite sea creatures. Be prepared to wait if you go right at lunch time or dinner time. To avoid a wait, make it an early lunch or dinner, but if you have to go at prime time, it is worth the wait."
