"The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina tries hard, but more often than not, misses the mark. They do occasionally get “name” acts, but it’s usually those making the “has been” tour. Plays tend to be safe choices (things pretty much everyone’s familiar with). In the past, they did try some more adventurous things, but evidently that didn’t pan out as the Hilton Head “Arts Patron” tends to be rather conservative. However, some of the renditions of Broadway musicals can be very entertaining, provided you don’t compare it with the “real thing” you saw on Broadway. It’s a beautiful facility, but apparently was built too small to hold a large enough crowd to turn a profit. I would recommend checking their website to see what’s coming up. The definite highlight of the season is the Opera, a local Italian-American charity. Tickets are pricey, but worth it. The opening night is Black Tie, so keep that in mind.
The Arts Center, in my opinion, is trying to have something for everyone… I think it would be more of an asset if they took more chances."
