El Corte Ingles Department Stores

Reviewed by akbj on October 14, 2008

akbj's rating:

"El Corte Ingles is a very enjoyable shopping or "looking around" location. As a first-timer to Madrid, you might be attracted to standard souvenirs at decent prices, or to the Spanish version of a fairly upscale department store. You can find "anything" here, in one of many floors filled with high end goods. It has it's own cafe, grocery store with very high quality food, big name handbags & clothing, personal care items, (ie: make up, etc.) sporting goods, its own book, music, & eloctronics stores with lots of English speaking staff to help you. There are any number of locations, with the largest main store in 2 buildings just off of Sol, the main downtown shopping mecca. It can be confusing but there is an information kiosk with employees who speak English. I really enjoy going there, whether to browse high-end furniture, or to enjoy one of their changing "world food" emporiums. This place has eveything, maybe not the personality of the many small shops that make Madrid shopping so much fun, but it's an outstanding department store experience."
