Sea Club Resort a bargain for the price

The Sea Club Resort in Ft. Lauderdale is not a new, modern high-rise. It's a vintage sea hotel of the type common in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. I loved the lobby, with stuffed birds in cages, foliage, and a winding staircase.

I was a little concerned by the rusty iron steps (either there is no elevator or it was not working,) and the somewhat worn carpet in the hallway, but I was very pleased with our room. It was large, with a king bed, and a table and two chairs. The bathroom was a good size, too. Everything was clean. Since we only paid $59 a night for the room, I was not sure what to expect, but it was very pleasant. The view from our window was not inspiring, since it looked out on an alley and the outside wall of the next building, but the ocean was directly across the street, with free beach lounges and brilliant blue umbrellas.

The hotel charges $2 a night for the electronic safe in each room, even if you don't use it. Since we were only staying one night, I thought that was a minor annoyance.

There is no continental breakfast, but the cafe attached to the hotel, The Deck, had an excellent sunrise special for only $5.99.

I thought the bed was very comfortable, but my husband, who must be more sensitive to these things than I am, said it was lumpy.

Still, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a great price for a clean, decent-sized room convenient to the ocean. We did not stay long enough to find out about service, but I was satisfied, for the price we paid.
