Until the Madison Hotel opened downtown, this Marriott near the Memphis Airport had the hippest, most cutting-edge décor in town. That says more about the city’s lodging choices than Marriott’s sense of style, but this is still one of the most attractive hotels in the city and is known for its excellent service. Expensive mattresses and good soundproofing make this an excellent choice for light sleepers, and anyone who needs to get in and out in a hurry for business will appreciate the location near the airport, I-240 and many office complexes. The cubist paintings and Art Deco fixtures in the bar and restaurant lend visual appeal to one of the best hotel eateries away from downtown. Alas, the most recent refurbishment stripped the guest rooms of their personality and they now look just like a Marriott room does anywhere else in the country.
