Important Hotel Information:

Quack. Quack. Quack. If you know anything about the Peabody, you know about the mallard ducks that kick their webbed feet around the opulent fountain in its main lobby. Sound strange? The duck doesn’t stop here; every day at 11 a.m. the ducks come down in an elevator from the rooftop level, where they live in the duck palace (the rooftop of the Peabody offers a stunning view of Memphis). They queue up, march through the lobby and hop into the fountain, then they return to their palace each day at 5 p.m. The Peabody’s preference for whimsy is particularly evident during the holiday season, when it’s dolled up with greenery and live music. This five-star, 80-year-old hotel, smack in the middle of downtown Memphis, makes Southern hospitality its priority. With a friendly staff on hand and more couches in its lobby than a frat house, the hotel is elaborate without feeling exclusive. Its 465 rooms recently underwent a major renovation. They are beautifully appointed in warm tones of cream and gold, elegant but comfortable, and somewhat European in feel. Next door to the Peabody is the Peabody Place Mall, certifying the locale as the best way to splurge your way through Memphis.

The Peabody Memphis - For decades the hotel's resident “duckmaster” has each morning directed five mallards from their rooftop Royal Duck Palace to the lobby, where they march along a red carpet to an Italian fountain to the tune of a John Philip Sousa march.

Gustonian's rating:

"I know there is a lot to do in Memphis, and I have been there often, but for me in the recent past Memphis is always the same, always about the Peabody Hotel, and I love it. I check into the Peabody, cross the street to Rendezvous for ribs, take a quick shower, have a drink in the lobby bar, hit Beale Street and BB Kings. The hotel rooms are grand, the staff is great, and the lobby bar is the perfect place to people watch in this gateway to the South. And of course, the place to see the ducks!"
