Back when Nashville was a culinary backwater, Sunset Grill was a pioneer restaurant that mixed inventive food with a formal, but not stuffy, atmosphere. After nearly 20 years, the formula is still going strong and this institution is especially popular with the old money crowd and their kids. Expect well-dressed and well-coifed people at the next table over — and a few looks down the nose if you come in jeans and a baseball hat. The extensive wine list is priced for people who sign their check without even looking at the total, but entrees are much more reasonable. This is a good spot for diners with special health or dietary requirements, since one section of the menu is labeled with fat, carb and calorie info. Still, this is no spa food deprivation menu: Steaks, heavy pastas and pork tenderloin still figure prominently for everyone else.
