"Had the best b-day lunch here yesterday, can't say enough about the place, had the BEST mushrom pate' and everything else was heavenly....SO bummed to find out they had a fire today, such a shame the garden was ruined, simply peaceful, I wish them all the best recreating it, so glad I got to see it and only one day before, eary....."

another reason to move to Austin

"I kept falling more in love with Austin everytime I went to a new part of it, but this restaurant was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. We had a wonderful Sunday brunch in the “garden.” All the plants and a man playing the harp enhanced the peaceful atmosphere (despite the crowd). And the menu had so many delicious-sounding, vegetarian choices, I could hardly make a decision. If you’re in Austin, don’t miss it."

healthy food to purify your soul

"I’ve been to Mother’s Cafe and Garden many times feeling a little too complicated. The “Peasant’s Meal” will fix that for about $6. You get the best black beans in town and the heartiest organic brown rice in a simple white porcelain bowl. They top it with a dollop of sour cream. It also comes with a romaine-based garden salad. For this, I urge the cashew-tamari dressing. You’ll feel whole and pure. Elsewise I like the enchiladas mole, jamaican stirfry, or their trademark dish, BBQ tofu. The restaurant has two distinct seating areas. The hostess will ask, “Inside or in the garden?” Inside is a diner feel. You can sit at the counter, a table or booth. You get some kitchen noise. The quieter and more secluded garden, with its corrugated plastic greenhouse roof and 500 leafy plants, is also inside but barely. It has a fountain with goldfish in it. On weekends there is a harp player. I give them a 95 instead of 100 because, though they have an outstanding brunch, they don’t open till 10 on the weekends!"
