"Top rate vegetarian food. My family were weekly patrons during my last year in Austin (2005). Though I eat plenty of meat, I like to think of myself as a vegetarian.
What a strange cafeteria. Push your tray along a cafeteria track that is only 9 and a half feet long. Weirdly tinted juices burble in granita dispensers. The green one is spinach pineapple juice (very good).
If you want the “special” you pick a salad from 4 choices, an entree from 3 choices and 2 sides from 6 choices. Entree might be soy dumplings with carrots and potatoes in a Mexican green chile gravy, or something like that. I was never quite sure what I was eating, but it was always delicious.
I must ding this place for two things. First, it’s located too close to the street on an ugly stretch of South Lamar. Plant some bushes. Second, the interior decor is hideous. Flourescent lights, fake terracotta wall-mount water fountain. Yet in a more generous mood I could say it is “unpretentious.”"
