College Station and Bryan join together in an agricultural area 165 miles south of Dallas-Fort Worth, where their combined population is 125,000. Stephen F. Austin’s colonists settled in this area between 1821 and 1831. Today, almost year-round hunting, fishing, and camping are popular at the nearby streams and woodlands.
College Station is home to Texas A & M University, the state’s first public institution, established in 1876. The university is known for its Cadet Corps and ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps), whose graduates have served by the thousands in World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. The town is noted for research in the areas of agriculture, animal pathology, saltwater and freshwater fisheries, engineering, and nuclear technology. The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum is located on the Texas A & M campus.
The 69,000-square-foot building is dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of official records, personal papers, and memorabilia from the life and career of former president George Bush, father of our current president.
Bryan-College Station is accessible by car by US-6 and US-21, and by plane or bus.
