Little town, crowded summers.
"I live in New Braunfels, so I've basically been to every event here more then two times. Schlitterbahn, the water-park, is okay. I worked there, the lines are long, and the food isn't worth how expensive it is. Before you go there fill up a cooler with some snacks and drinks, no glass can go in the park, so get plastic stuff. Unless you really want to spend $5 for a hot-dog. The pizza they have in the main park isn't too bad, it tastes good and it can be worth the price depending on your tastes. The Guadalupe river runs all through New Braunfels, tubing is fun, but very very long. Take sun screen to avoid a very bad sunburn. That covers summer events. Fall events are Wurst-fest and Wasslefest. Wurst-fest is just a German festival that has 2-3 rides, live music, lots of vendors selling souvenirs, and okay tasting food. Wasslefest is just a walk through authentic downtown, which is very lovely at night, going to each store and trying alcoholic and non-alcoholic cider. Best to be done when it's really cold outside, because the cider is hot. Downtown is my favorite part of New Braunfels. That covers fall. Nothing really goes on during winter or spring, it's our "no tourists" season. Landa Park is open all year round. It's a great place to sit back and Bar-b-Que. I haven't been there since they changed everything, but I believe if you want to plan a party you have to call ahead of time and reserve a slab. If you show up and just want to use a table or two that's fine, but if you're an out-of-towner they charge you $10 for the table for the entire day. They took out the old playground and are putting in a new one soon. There's a small putt putt area near the entrance, and a train that you can ride through the park. If you're in the mood for putt putt, go-karts, and baseball I'd go to The Gator Gap, located on Loop 337. The prices aren't too bad for what you get, and they sell pizza for an okay price. Be sure to wear shoes if you want to ride the go-karts. There's plenty of retail stores in New Braunfels, plenty of hotels, and plenty of fast food restaurants. I recommend staying at either Quality Inn, or Days Inn, if you're traveling with a significant other or family. The Quality Inn has an indoor pool for the families, and both hotels have some rooms with jacuzzi/whirlpools when traveling with a companion. And I know the Edelweiss looks like a very nice hotel with German decor, but don't let it fool you. They'll scam you for every penny they can, and their rooms look horrible. In town we have many restaurants, Olive Garden, Chili's, Johnny Carino's, Rudy's, Huisache, Springs seafood and steakhouse, New Braunfels Smoke House, Montana Mikes, Oma's Haus, River City Smoke House, Myron's (very very expensive, must wear formal attire), Adobe, Mamacitas, Applebees, Asian Bamboo Buffet, Fire Mountain, Scores sports bar and grill, Mr. Gattis (Gattiland, not many games), TJ's, IHOP, and Village Inn. The only one I haven't been to in Myron's, I'm not yet ready to spend at minimum $100 for two people. Great food, big prices. Tons of fast-food places, which I won't name because there is way too many. All nighters are Whataburger (after 11pm they have toquitos which are really really good), IHOP, last time I heard Mc Donald's was, I'm not quite sure because I've never wanted a greasy hamburger at 3am. Village Inn stays open till about 1am, depending on the day. Overall New Braunfels is a great place to go for families during the summer, if I didn't live here I'd come here. Not great for a couple trying to get a romantic get-away though... I recommend some place with a beach.
