Welcome to a peek into the past of San Antonio. This charming district, which was originally a farmland, is located on the eastern side of San Antonio River and has found a place in the National Register of Historic Places. A few buildings including The Guenther House and The Edward Steves Homestead are open to public. The Guenther House houses a restaurant, museum and a store while The Steves Homestead is a museum. Self guided walking tours can be taken so that you can leisurely stroll along the pretty lanes, drop into a restaurant or an art gallery as and when you want to. Several events like King William Fair and Spring Garden Tour are conducted during the year.

Great Place for First Friday

Reviewed by SGroves on February 06, 2007

SGroves' rating:

"The King Williams’ neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Antonio. It is in the downtown area and within walking distance of the Riverwalk. Besides some really great restaurants like China Latina or the Mad Hatter, cool old buildings and phenomenal Victorian homes, it has one of the best kept local secrets every first Friday of the month.Called First Friday the district turns into a monthly art festival with local artists and artisans selling their wares from sidewalk canopies or collapsible tables parked on front lawns. The mood is low key and fun. No First Friday is the same as another and you never know what kind of treasures and bargains you will find. If you are in San Antonio and it’s the first Friday of the month take a trip to the neighborhood. Plan to get their early, park in the neighborhood streets close to Alamo St and enjoy! "
