Casa Rio was the first restaurant on the River Walk and is still a must if you have never eaten riverside. With colorful décor, inside and outside seating, and a prime location for people-watching, this restaurant is a favorite among both tourists and locals. Add potent, thirst-quenching margaritas, waitresses bustling about in Mexican sundresses, and Mexican favorites such as enchiladas and tamales, and you have the makings of the classic Tex-Mex dining experience. Because no reservations are taken and this is a hot spot, you may want to arrive a little early to avoid long lines.

Casa Rio - muy malo!

Trav-A-Tar's rating:

"I recently went to Casa Rio on a trip to San Antonio. The Riverside seating is OK if you like sitting under a bridge. I wasn’t complaing the shade was nice. We were greeted and put our name in for a seating of 6. Our pager buzzed and we were off to the hostess stand. We had asked for outside riverside seating, and had waited for 20 minutes with 2 small kids. When we approached the hostess stand we were told to wait a second, presumably to grab menus, etc. but after a few minutes we asked can we be seated. we saw 2-3 large tables available. They had us wait longer. OK, I don’t mind waiting but why page us? all of a sudden a lady walked up, who was on the list behind us, (table for 6). the hostess seated her immediately!!!! then they proceeded to try and seat us inside! We called for management intervention at this point, we asked why the other lady was seated ahead of us? Why she got our seats? They claimed we hadn’t asked for outside seating! As my friend pointed out on the seating request charts, one for outside one for inside, we were clearly on the outside chart! The manager came and seated us enventually at the table next to where we should have been. We waited for another 10 minutes for Drink orders and then another 5 minutes for drinks and chips to arrive. We were less than impressed at this point. The chips were thicker than I liked but the salse, pico de gallo, was excellent! Great I though to myself, this may not be too bad. WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG. the only good thing about the meal was the french fries my daughter ate, and shared wih me. I ordered the 2 Taco plate, beef and chicken. It was god-awful, tasteless, crummy and seriously lacking in any personality. Taco bell is better. My friends had the Senora Plate and the most popular plate, somehting like Casa Rio special. Again the only comment was that the rice was ok. It was horrible by Texas standards. I can’t believe restaurant continue to churn out this slop and stay in business. I would never return there unless it was strictly for Beers and Chips-n-Salsa. A big disapointment!"
