Pyramids of Giza

Definitely a Wonder of the World

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but pictures of the pyramids do not do them the justice they deserve. Standing at the base of any of the three pyramids and staring up to their peak you get this incredible feeling of the true power of the human mind and spirit. The fact that the ancient Egyptians were able to build these monsterous structures without any modern equipment is just amazing. The pyramids take my breath away in the same way as the Grand Canyon. Both are incredible creations...one by man, one by nature.

From the majority of the pictures taken of the pyramids it appears as if they are out in the middle of nowhere. This couldn't be further from the truth. Giza is a suburb of Cairo just on the other side of the Nile river. I actually have some pictures of the Cairo skyline and the pyramids are a part of that skyline. My favorite picture of the pyramids was one I took in 1999 of a Coca-Cola billboard. The billboard simply stated that "Thirst is an ancient feeling" and the best part is that one of the pyramids is visible directly behind the billboard.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit Egypt make sure that you spend some time at the pyramids. My suggestion is that you go early in the day (especially in the summer). It is worth paying the extra money to go inside the pyramids. That is a once in a lifetime experience (unless you are like me and get to visit a lot). Also, if you want to ride a camel that is a lot of fun. Just make sure to tell them you don't want to get the extended tour. They will take you out to get a great picture of the the pyramids, but they may take you to a perfume/papyrus shop if you don't make sure to specify the type of "tour" you want.
