How the other half lives!

Last year my family took a trip to Disney World and stayed at the All-Star Sports resort. It was a fine hotel, exactly what you would expect from the lowest priced hotels on the property. Well this year we stayed at the Polynesian and WOW, what a difference. The rooms are huge! They list that you can have 5 people per room, but with two queen size beds and a sofa bed that could comfortably fit two you could at least get 6 to a room.

The lobby is beautiful and really gives you the feeling that you are in the South Pacific. AT the entrance you are greeted with Aloha by a woman handing out leis. We arrived around 10:30am, so our room wasn't ready, but they took our bags and gave us room keys (that were also our park passes and "credit cards") so we could go out and start enjoying Disney World.

All of the staff members were very friendly. Each one would greet us with an Aloha if they saw us on the property. We had some difficulty with our safe and they were very quick to come and fix the problem.

There were two swimming pools that we used. The main pool had a "volcano" slide that was short but fun. It also was a zero depth pool (it sloped all the way from the deep end to the sidewalk) that was right next to the beach. That way you could lounge in the pool and look out over the lake to see the spires of Cinderella's Castle. The other pool was closer to our room (we stayed in the Tahiti building) and was much quieter.

Getting to and from the Magic Kingdom and Epcot was a snap. Our building was located next to the transportation center, so we could hop on the ferry to get to the Magic Kingdom (it was quicker than the Monorail) or the Monorail to get to Epcot. For everything else we would take one of the busses like you do at all the other resorts.

All in all this was a great place to stay. The only catch is the price. Two nights cost more than a week at the All-Star Sports. For our type of Disney vacation it doesn't make sense to do this again (we don't spend a lot of time in our rooms), but it was a great experience and one I will never forget.

Also, I'd like to thank my brother-in-law for letting us tag along. He is the reason we stayed at the Polynesian and I'm glad we had the opportunity to experience it at least once in our lives.
