Typhoon Lagoon
Three Must Do's
Typhoon Lagoon is a very nice water park. The reason I only gave it three stars is that if you only have one day for a water park, then you will want to go to Blizzard Beach. Although, there are three things you have to do at Typhoon Lagoon if you have the time.
The number one water ride in any water park is at Typhoon Lagoon and it is called the Crush n' Gusher. This is not your average water ride, it is a water rollercoaster. You get into either a two person or three person innertube (you can ride solo in a two person tube) and get launched down a slide and as you reach the bottom of the first hill you are thrown forward (UPHILL!!!) by jets of water. It is an amazing ride! There are three different slides and my favorite is the middle slide (it has back to back drops that take you by surprise).
The next on the to-do list is swimming with sharks. Now of course they aren't that big, but it is an amazing way to snorkle with tropical fish and it is a lot like snorkling in the ocean (without the fear of getting seasick). My biggest suggestion that I can make is that you should use a life vest. I have made this suggestion to people at the park and the one's that took my advice were grateful and the one's that didn't told me they wish they had taken my advice. I have snorkled in the Carribean and Hawaii and still would wear the vest here for one reason...It makes it easier to just float along. The pool is very short and you can only swim in one direction. There is no time limit so if you are just floating you can relax and enjoy all the fish rather than "swim" and not see as much of the tank.
Finally you have to participate in the wave pool. This pool shoots out a SIX foot wall of water every minute or so!!! It is fun to get out there and try to body surf back in to shore.
My overall suggestion for doing Typhoon Lagoon is to get there early. If you are staying at one of the Disney hotels you can get to the park an hour earlier than everyone else and that makes a big difference. We arrived early and were able to ride every slide/attraction in Typhoon Lagoon in under 2 hours. We actually rode the Crush 'n Gusher 5 times in 15 minutes! By noon the wait for the ride was over 30 minutes.
This is a nice place to take a break from the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM and the Animal Kingdom. You can sit back and relax or take a ride on a water rollercoaster, it is all up to you. Just remember to put on plenty of sunscreen.
