Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, sits on the southeast coast. Edinburgh is home to a impressive collection of medieval relics but is also a home to glorious modern restaurants, shops and nightlife. Take in the sights in the medieval Old Town and the Georgian New Town, then check out examples of outstanding modern architecture, as well. Must-sees during your visit here include Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and the Scott Monument, where you can take in great views of the city. There are many excellent museums worth visiting, as well. And shoppers will want to be sure to visit Princes Street and the nearby Multrees Walk (at St. Andrew Square) for high-end favorites, then venture to the West End to check out funkier boutiques. Swanky restaurants can be found on George Street, while more traditional fare can be had in the pubs of Old Town.
