"One of my former colleagues recommended Simpsons’s-in-the-Strand when I told him we were going to London. The dining room here, which they call the Grand Divan, was fairly formal and a little old-fashioned looking, which seemed fitting. We went with the classic (rather than contemporary) menu options, because we wanted to experience traditional British food. I had lobster soup to start, which I thought was great, and Lynn had potato soup, which she said was much better than the potato soup she gets at the café near our house back home. A couple we met at our hotel said the roast beef here was excellent, so that’s what we tried, and they were right. I wasn’t sure what I’d think of Yorkshire pudding, but I did like it. For dessert we split the treacle sponge with custard – it was so good we wished we’d ordered two portions."
