Located in southwestern Utah, off I-15, this small university town of 11,000 people was a mining community during the 1850s boom. Its iron foundry was the economy’s mainstay until the growth of tourism.
A short driving distance to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks, Cedar City is a perfect starting point for desert travelers.
Cedar City’s cultural events have also become a regional draw. It hosts the annual Shakespearean Festival and the Utah Summer Games. Southern Utah University packs in the crowds on campus at Adams Memorial Theater, an excellent replica of a traditional Elizabethan playhouse.
Visitors can also view Iron Mission State Park, the site of the town’s first iron foundry on Main Street. A collection of pioneer artifacts is on display.
Cedar City Regional Airport services the area.
