Independent film lovers and skiers know Park City well, and now it’s your turn. Founded by Robert Redford, the Sundance Film Festival is an independent film lover’s dream, and every January, people who produce movies and documentaries on shoestring budgets gather in Park City for screenings. Awards are distributed to those who create the most groundbreaking work that year. Unknowns and celebrities alike descend upon Park City for the festival, creating quite a buzz.
If skiing is more your speed, there are plenty of slopes to try in Park City. The Canyons, Alta, and Deer Valley are just a few of the resorts that offer skiing opportunities that you can’t find elsewhere. The skiing conditions at each resort are very different, so look for one that appeals to you the most. Some resorts offer other winter sports, such as snowmobiling, in addition to skiing. Snowboarders, take note – not all Utah resorts allow boards on their runs. The Canyons is the place for you, as neither Alta nor Deer Valley allow snowboards. Trade in your skis for sneakers and check out all of the shopping in the area. A Historic Main Street district is the epitome of quaint and is lined with shops and galleries. For a change of pace, visit the factory outlet mall. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, satisfy it in one of more than 100 restaurants and bars in the community. Choose from fast food to fine dining – many restaurants here are considered to be the best in the intermountain west. You may explore Park City for the skiing, but you’ll stay because of its charm.
