Savannah
Bring Sunscreen, Cash, and a GPS nav. system
I've been to Savannah a great number of times, we were looking to move there in fact. I would suggest going with someone who has already visited if it's possible, just so you can experience it as a visitor and not as someone who is stressed out trying to find your way. I found that we could get a great room rate at the Ramada Limited in Pooler, GA and then drive in each day. Be aware of the traffic and know how to drive the squares. There are great attractions in the city, River Street being one of the most well known. If you visit River St., I advise nice walking shoes as the street is cobbled. Also, a great place to eat is the Greek place there. Stop into the candy shop along River Street as well for tasty samples of their wares. As a welcome to the town, I might visit the Visior's Center first and tour their museum as well as pick up some books on things to do. For a less packed experience, you may want to visit City Market, located a few blocks off. It is a more artsy area with a number of studios and art shops. I have heard good things about Picasso Pizza there. A visit to Clary's cafe would not be a terrible idea. Made famous by the novel and later movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, this place is still down to earth and serves great food. We went in and had the best stuffed french toast I've ever had. They serve a great breakfast and lunch, we visited during both meal times. The train museum is also a great stop, especially for kids or Dad's who dig trains. My boyfriend loved the round house that they've managed to partially preserve. Thomas the Tank fans will get a kick out of this stop. My mother recently went to Savannah and had a great time on the ghost tour as well as a history tour. She highly recommends either one. She says that it makes it easy to enjoy since you just sit back and watch and you don't have to deal with trying to find your way around.Reviewed on: June 27, 2008
