Bremerton, WA Summary

This city of 41,600 was created for, and remains sustained by, the huge Puget Sound Naval Shipyard on the western side of Puget Sound, west of Seattle. The shipyard is the largest and most diverse on the West Coast, and is the Northwest’s largest naval shore facility. It is also Washington’s second-largest industrial facility. The yard overhauls and repairs all types of ships. It is also the home port of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. Bremerton Naval Museum portrays the history of the US Navy. The USS Turner Joy Naval Memorial Museum, a decommissioned destroyer, is an educational facility that highlights US naval history.

Bremerton is an hour from Seattle by ferry, and about 30 miles from Tacoma via State Route 16.
