Location. The Kirk House Bed and Breakfast is located on San Juan Island in Friday Harbor, Wash., two blocks from shops, restaurants and the ferry port. The inn is one-quarter mile from Turn Island State Park, offering whale-watching and kayaking, and one-half mile from San Juan Island National History Park.
Features. The Kirk House Bed and Breakfast is a Craftsman-style home featuring 12-foot ceilings, wood-wrapped arch doorways, and leaded-glass and granite fireplaces. Full, complimentary breakfasts, including fruit and yogurt parfaits, homemade granola and a hot entrée, are served each morning. Baked snacks are available in the afternoon. A veranda wraps around two sides of the bed and breakfast, and supports pillars with recurring Japanese-style roof-lines. The foundation of the house is San Juan Island-quarried granite and limestone. Pets are not allowed.

Guestrooms. These non-smoking guestrooms are furnished with a variety of period antiques. All rooms feature private bathrooms. Cable television, DVD players and complimentary wireless Internet access are included. Select rooms offer two-person jetted tubs, fireplaces and private entrances from the veranda. The Arbor Room features French doors leading to the garden. The Veranda room showcases original woodwork and offers a veranda.Expert Tip. The Kirk House Bed and Breakfast was built in 1907 as a summer retreat by Seattle industrialist Peter Kirk, who established the Great Western Iron and Steel Company, and also built a 500-acre hunting estate at the north end of the island.
