Customer Service at Hampton Inn in Toronto
Weeks ago, we went to Toronto for a vacation. We have accumulated some Hilton Hotel reward points so that we used them to book a two night hotel stay at their Hampton Inn near Airport for free. When we checked in, the clerk looked at the email printout of Hilton, asked a lot of questions, sounded like not happy and suspicious, even all the info on the printout they could verify. All the info in their computer already. Finally they let us in. Tired and sleepy after a long drive, just ready to sleep. They called and demand some sort of "certificate coupons", otherwise they will charge us the normal rate which is over $100 per night. We were upset and told them we will talk them the next morning. The next morning, I went to see the manager and told him we redeemed the points online and never got any certificate. He demanded that email print out again. I already gave them that last night, but I gave them again anyway. They checked and called. 10 mins later, they did not say anything but just said no problem now. They were not happy of course because we did not pay them any for the stay. But we did not get those points for free, we worked hard to earn those points to accumulate that many. Their way of treating us let me free not redeeming some reward we earned squarely and fairly, but rather made me feel we stole something from them.
